Today, there is a wide array of newly approved and experimental TREATMENT OPTIONS for almost every type of cancer.
Each week, I will add a new blog post and share with you updates on new and exciting treatments. As always, do your due diligence to see if it is right for your situation.
You are dealing with a lot right now and hopefully we can help by giving you a start in your search by sharing some promising treatment options or you can get a head start by seeing what the NIH website has to offer. https://www.nih.gov/health-information/nih-clinical-research-trials-you
When conversing with the treatment facility, always ask about success rates and possible side effects. Remember to always do your homework before making any immediate decisions. Also, remember, DO NOT MAKE ANY DECISIONS UNDER PRESSURE OR HIGH EMOTIONAL STRESS. As when emotions run high, the thinking process gets impaired. If you feel pressured in any way by anyone to make a decision right now, say “Stop. Let me think about it, I’ll get back to you. You can use the “I need to consult with my family members” excuse if you feel you need to.
If you find it may not be right for you or the doctors feel it may not be the right treatment for your situation, then ask them if they have any suggestions or know of any other new treatments that you may be better suited for. There is so much out there and often times having another doctor call to check on other therapies will increase your chances of becoming a candidate.
Love him or hate him, one of the first bills in office that former President Trump signed was called the “Right to Try” act. This is something that I have never been able to make sense of. When my wife was first told she was inoperable, we immediately started looking to get into an experimental trial. To our astonishment, these trials where nearly impossible to get into as you had to fall perfectly within their guidelines to get accepted. “God forbid” something should happen to a person who is already told there is nothing else that the medical establishment can do for them (being facetious of course). This was a brutal reality. Now 20 years later, and we finally got an administration to recognize that a dying person should have the humane right to try any type of treatment they believe might work or can give them a chance to survive. Terminally ill patients should absolutely have the ability to access clinical trials and now you do. However, you do not have to be terminal to get into many of them and here again, is a great place to start https://www.nih.gov/health-information/nih-clinical-research-trials-you
