10 Small Steps to Happiness

by | May 2, 2021 | Cancer, Health, Lifestyle, Mind

How many of these do you do now? You think you can do all ten in the next week? Although I don’t do it enough, my girlfriend and I will wake up early ever so often, make our coffees (hers is bulletproof) and drive to the canyon to watch the sunrise. Watching nature wakeup was definitely my favorite of the 10. Let me know your favorite after doing them all.  1. Get up before the rest of the world – Many of the worlds most successful people are early risers including Jeff Bezos, Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to name a few. (see link) 2. Fall asleep earlier – This is an important part of the process of getting your body healthy. Going to bed early does not mean laying in bed on your phone, tablet or watching TV. Your body spends its sleep time rebuilding from the day, and if you’re eating right, your body will be using this shut-eye time working on getting stronger for the next day. Go to bed earlier and you’ll wake up in the morning feeling re-energized. This may take a week or more to get used to but before you know, it you won’t need your alarm clock anymore. 3. Erase ALL SUGAR and processed foods from your diet. If you are on an immune strengthening routine (especially if you have cancer), you must immediately cut out all refined sugars (If you have cancer, this means ANY sugar including fruits for at least the first couple of months). Start with soft drinks (the worst of them all), and than see my blog about sugar titled “Not So Sweet”. (see link) 4. Get into the habit of enjoying cooking. Making your own food is a MUST and critical to strengthening your body’s immune system. Please don’t tell me you can’t cook. Check out my “Freakin’ Easy Recipes” blog post (see link) and you will be enjoying healthy food that is not only easy but fun to make. No microwave needed (more about the unhealthy effects of them in a later post, (see link)), just some great music, a glass of wine or Kombucha and a good knife.  5. Stretch. Start by reaching for the sky as high as you can, then trying to touch your toes. Roll your head. Stretch your fingers. Stretch everything. Stretching keeps the body loose, flexible and happy, plus it is a great way to get your blood flowing in the morning – which mean more oxygen in your system.  Remember to always breathe “out” on the stretch.  6. Buy a 1.5 liter water bottle and finish it by day’s end – minimum. Nothing is more important than hydrating your body and flushing your organs. See my blog post on “We Are Water” (see link).  7. Finish your shower with cold water. This is a difficult one for many. However, you can start with running the cold water over your feet (front and back) at first and then turn the shower head on full cold for the last minute of your shower. This will pump your blood flow and you will feel amazing when you get out of the shower. Trust me on this one and check out my post “Getting Used To Cold Dips” (see link).   8. Keep the house clean and make your bed everyday. Keeping the house clean goes without saying. Start with your bedroom and a good dusting then organize your clothes and put away out of season items. Even try rearranging some items in the house to create a new and more open energy flow. Also think about buying a rechargeable vacuum like a Dyson to make vacuuming more fun and easier, no bulky vacuum to drag around.  make sure you vacuum not once but a few days a week and if you have pets that should be everyday. You can smell and feel the difference just with a vacuum cleaning.  Making your bed everyday makes going to sleep feel so much better (smiley face to bed). This is one of the main reasons people enjoy hotel stays (think about it).  Making your bed also has an interesting psychological effect. When you’ll be walking by your bedroom and see that bed nicely made and this clean space, it will unconsciously bring peace to your mind. Try it, you’ll see! You can also watch Admiral McRaven’s lecture on another good reason to make your bed each morning .  9. Use a Rebounder, EVERY DAY. A Rebounder is a mini trampoline and one of the best known ways to get your lymph flowing (see post on “Bouncing Back To Health (see link)). What many people don’t realize is that your artery system is similar to your lymph system. However, your arteries have a heart to keep the blood pumping and your lymph don’t and need to rely on you moving and/or exercising. The Rebounder is an easy way to bounce your organs, cells and lymph to open up small or upcoming blockages as well as keeping your oxygen levels healthy. Best to do it on an empty stomach. Start with a 5 minute bounce, then 10 or try 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes before your start cooking dinner. 10. Find a new Hobby.  Try anything from gardening to selling stuff you find or even stuff you make on an online store, or starting a blog like I did. Push yourself to follow through and not just think about doing it, (see my posts about “Starting a Raised Garden Bed” (see link)). You can plant a few veggies or strawberries even if you live in an apartment and only have a terrace or window that gets good sun. Gardening is a daily activity that brings wonderful gratification and healthy food that you know is truly organic.   One More For Good Luck. Wake up everyday and tell everyone in your household you love them and that it’s gonna be a great day. I love you guys and I hope you are enjoying reading this. 🙂
